Joseph Kassabian: four reviews

This post collects my short reviews of four books by Joseph Kassabian, read in July 2022: the first three books of his military science fiction series and Hooligans of Kandahar.

Citizen of Earth (first posted 10 July 2022)

I finished Citizen of Earth by Joseph Kassabian this week.

Excellent #ScienceFiction #MilSciFi.

This is Book I of his Galaxy on Fire series. I’ve started into Book II now and it’s super. Great characters, great setting, and great action. It’s a cracker.

The Great Traitor (first posted 15 July 2022)

I read Book II, The Great Traitor, of the Galaxy on Fire series by Joseph Kassabian earlier this week. A brilliant sequel.

Top-notch #ScienceFiction, definitely a #mustread series for anyone who enjoys #MilSciFi. I’m hacking through my ‘To Read’ list but can’t wait to add Book III, The Consul.

However, I can see that Joseph had to change publisher, and therefore series title and covers. So, I think I’ll be reading Book III under a very different name.

Hooligans of Kandahar (first posted 16 July 2022)

Continuing my Joseph Kassabian run this week, I re-read his award-winning Hooligans of Kandahar, which introduced me to his work.

A disarmingly honest & hard-hitting account of war. This #combat veteran’s experience of the violent conflict in #Afghanistan is a #mustread.

Victory or Death (first posted 29 July 2022)

Getting extra time to read is one of my favourite parts of holidays. I finished Book III of this series by Joseph Kassabian last week.

A great addition to this #ScienceFiction series. Definitely a #MilSciFi #SciFi #mustread.

I’ve got to say that I really did prefer the original cover art and series titles. What a difficult thing for an author, to have to change publishers and to have to change the outward identity of their book.

It’s remarkable the effect the cover has on one’s initial perception of the book. I can definitely see why cover art is so critical a decision, particularly for a series.
