Fair winds and following seas

At 2359hrs, I officially retires from permanent service with An tSeirbhís Chabhlaigh after 25 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

Thank you to my wonderful family for everything they have endured over the years of my service. It is your love, strength, and support which makes all things possible.

To my comrades and colleagues, and all those trained and mentored me, across all the branches of the service it have been a pleasure and privilege to sail and serve with you all. Together we’ve sailed countless miles over seemly endless days. We worked hard wherever we went, often in the most challenging conditions, out of sight, far beyond the last horizon, and we can take solace in knowing that we made a difference; especially during Ops PONTUS & SOPHIA where we saved thousands of lives.

Through our work in PDFORRA, together we made life better for the Citizens in Uniform whom we are so honoured to serve. Especially my steadfast comrades Mark, Gordon, and Ciaron.

I remember those friends who we lost along the way today as well; Brian, Robbie, TJ, Doggy, John Mc, Babs, Fergus, and Froggy; sadly to name but a few. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

A special note to my dear friends Declan, Larry, and Kieran. Couldn’t have asked for better people to have shared my service with. Thank you.

I’ll look forward to transferring to the 1st Line Reserve to continue to contribute in some small way to Óglaigh na hÉireann, which has given so much to me. So, you’ll see this auld Senior Chief in uniform again at some point.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir!
