Today’s sentence:
“John and Mary O’Leary reside at No.1 Cherry Tree Gardens. They have three chicks.”
Inspiration and Observation:
There is a pair of Great Tits, who have staked out our birdhouse since I began feeding the birds at the start of last winter. The bird feeders hang from the branches of our cherry tree. I watch them from the kitchen table which doubles as our home office and my writing desk.
John and Mary are now the proud, and outrageously busy, parents of three chicks. We couldn’t be more delighted to have new arrivals in the garden.
If you’re ever got a pain in your unmentionables with work, you can just look out the window and these feathered friends will provide a reconnection with something good in the world. Maybe that’s why many of us like nature so much, as it doesn’t want anything from us, most of the time even the creatures in it don’t know or care we exist. So, we can just enjoy it. A rare thing in our increasingly transactional world, where constant engagement is demanded every second of the day.
My wife has named them John and Mary. I think that is perfect. This is the couple from Father Ted who run the Craggy Island shop. They steal the show in every scene, and if you’ve never seen them, I’d highly recommend it.
