A long week down.

Amplitude by Gordan Kinsella. A Irish Naval vessel is at anchor and the sun is setting. The sunset is photographed through the ensign (the flag flying at a ships stern.) The suns light shines through the national flag of Ireland, and some coastal island are in the background in silhouette. The green, white, and orange are barely discernible. It is an image which stirs emotions of duty, service, and remembrance. A celestial body’s amplitude angle is the complement of its azimuth angle. when the body rises or sets, the amplitude angle is the arc of the horizon between the body and the East/West point of the horizon where the observer’s prime vertical intersects the horizon (at 90°). In practical navigation, a bearing of a body can be observed when it is on either the celestial or the visible horizon.
